Cloud & Edge Computing

Cloud computing – an extensive field that is sustainably transforming the classic automation pyramid with appropriate security mechanisms based on digitisation. This includes many areas of application. We have focused on the following areas:

  • Multi-client-capable cloud solutions with SCADA functionality (modular principle, can be virtualised as much as desired, expandable functionality)
  • Interface technologies for big data systems
  • Interface technologies for the use of edge algorithms

Several technologies as well as technology methods have been deployed for edge computing uses. In cooperation with the University of Buchs (NTB Buchs), a practice-oriented method was developed to also apply the edge algorithm technology to the automation pyramid.

Optimise processes? Increase plant availability? EDGE-Line and EDGE-Line Building Process are used to develop algorithms based on historical data, correlations and anomaly detection.

Transferred to EDGE-Line, they support your process optimisation on every plant, which is something that cannot be achieved in the same way using conventional PLC applications. This is how EDGE-Line supports your PLC at the automation level.

  • Flexible hardware architecture for your edge computing tasks
  • Python or R software mapping to implement the algorithms
  • Optional implementation via DSP or FPGA
  • Process data connection via fieldbuses, additional sensors or connection to the PLC
  • Transfer of the soft-sensor values (calculated using algorithms) to dedicated outputs or directly to the PLC
